Finally an update!!!

Well, the last post was just a quick word that the February Podcast had been posted.  This was done just in time for the biggest snow fall on record for our area.  We ended up out of school for an entire week and then the week following we we started school 90 minutes late every day.  I believe this was probably a record for us as well.  This past week we were finally able to get things back on a regular schedule.  Although we had a little threat of more snow at the end of the week, we were spared the worst of it and just saw a slight dusting in the end.  Besides that, the big snow is doing really well at melting.  We are all looking forward to Spring and all that is to come with that including the green grass and warmer temperatures.

Here is some news since our last post:

  • On Thursday, February 18th, QACHS had 4 ensembles travel to St. Michaels MS/HS for our District Solo and Ensemble Festival.  All of the ensembles received a “Superior” or “Excellent” rating.  The flute trio will go on to represent QACHS at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival in May.
  • On Saturday, February 20th, QACHS had 5 students audition for the 2010 Senior All-Shore Band.  All 5 students did very well with 4 being selected to participate.  The following students will be participating in the concert that will be held on Saturday, March 27th at 7:30 PM at Easton HS: Shannon M. – 5th Chair Flute, Robert D. – 1st Chair Trumpet, Jesse D. – 8th Chair Trumpet, and Brady P. – 2nd Chair Percussion.  Andrew D. – is the 1st alternate for Alto Saxophone.

We also have a few things on our schedule that are coming up over the next couple weeks:

  • Dress Rehearsal Week – Sunday, February 28th @ 2:00 – 6:00 PM and Monday – Thursday, March 1-4 @ 2:40 – 8:00 PM.
  • Your A Good Man Charlie Brown – Friday, March 5th @ 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 6th @ 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 13th @ 7:30 PM, and Sunday, March 14th @ 3:00 PM.  Tickets: $8 Students/$10 Adults (There will also be an daytime performance for local school students on Thursday, March 11th.)
  • District Band Festival – The Concert/Symphonic Bands will be traveling to Kent County High School for District Band Festival on Wednesday, March 10th.  They are scheduled to do their performance at 10:00 AM and sight reading at 10:30 AM.  Students will report to the band room first thing that morning to get dressed, packed, and loaded for an 8:30 AM departure.  The students will return back to QACHS at about 1:00 PM.  Since the last lunch shift will be over by the time we return, unload our equipment, and get changed out of uniform, each student will need to bring a packed lunch that day as we will then be eating lunch together in the band room.
