Update for the Week of 1/13/25 – 1/18/25

As of this morning, this week is our last full week of the first semester.  Next week is scheduled to be a four day week due to MLK Day on Monday, Final Exams for the Fall Semester periods 1 and 2 classes on Tuesday, and Mid-term exams for the Hybrid 2 classes and Final Exams for the Fall Semester periods 3 and 4 classes on Wednesday.  Thursday will be a Make-up Exam Day for any student missing their exam(s) on Tuesday or Wednesday.  If all exams were completed, then students do not need to come to school on that day.  There will be no school on Friday and Monday of the following week, due to the staff furlough days.  We will then begin the Spring Semester classes on that Tuesday, which will also be a half day for students.

The Concert and Symphonic Bands continue their M,W, F full rehearsal schedule getting ready for District Band Festival in March and the small ensembles in those two classes are getting rehearsal time together during their respective class times on T and Th.  The Pit Orchestra will finally be able to begin preparations for the production of Peter Pan.  This coming Saturday will be All-Shore auditions at Bennett Middle School in Fruitland, MD. Students will need to arrive on their own and check in at their designated check-in times.  All students must be checked in by 10:30AM.  The Pre-Registration Forms that were due to Mr. Wright by the end of last week, must be turned in to him no later than the end of the day on Tuesday.

Here we are enjoying a snow day after the much-anticipated weather reports finally proved to come to fruition.  This week was to be the first of our last two full weeks of the first semester.  Once we do make our return back to school, the Concert and Symphonic Bands will be continuing their preparations for District Band Festival that is in March.  The small ensembles out of both of those large ensembles will continue their preparations for Solo and Ensemble Festival next month.  We will begin our Pit Orchestra rehearsals for “Peter Pan”.  As we take a look ahead, next week we are to have our last full week before we have Final Exams for the Fall Semester Periods 1 and 2 on Tuesday, and 3 and 4 on Wednesday that week.  All-Shore Auditions will be held that Saturday at Bennett Middle School in Fruitland.

All-Shore Pre-registrations are due to Mr. Wright with the necessary $5 per instrument registration fee by Friday.  We will also be finalizing our registrations for Solo and Ensemble Festival in class next week.

Update for the Week of 12/30/24 – 1/3/25

Wednesday we ring in the new year. I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year and look forward to all that this new year has for our various ensembles her at QACHS. I thank everyone that supported us in 2024 in all that we were able to do and accomplish.

Thursday, we will get back into the swing of things as we return from Winter Break. The Concert and Symphonic Bands will continue with their preparations for District Band Festival in March and the small ensembles will continue their preparations for Solo and Ensemble Festival next month. We will hold our full ensemble rehearsals on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and use our rehearsal time on Tuesdays and Thursdays for our small ensembles.  All-Shore Pre-Registration forms will be available on Thursday for those who are planning to audition for the Senior All-Shore Band.  These need to be returned with the registration fee to Mr. Wright before the end of next week.

Looking ahead to next week, we will also begin our rehearsals with the Pit Orchestra getting ready for the Spring Musical production of Peter Pan, that will run the second and third weekends in March.  There will also be a Booster Meeting on Thursday evening this week.  This is an important meeting as we need to elect new officers for the organization, as most of our current officers will be leaving us in May as their student will be graduating.

I want to wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone as we look forward to that special day on Wednesday.

This week we get to enjoy a full week of break for Winter Break.  I hope everyone enjoys all of the upcoming holidays and gets to enjoy a well-deserved break.

Looking ahead to when we return from Winter Break, we will begin our Pit Orchestra Rehearsals on Monday, January 6th, after school and will have rehearsal Mondays – Thursdays.

Update for the Week of 12/16/24 – 12/20/24

We have 4 1/2 days left until winter break and all of the upcoming holidays during that time. This week we will be sharing with our two middle schools and all that we have to offer within the band program here at QACHS.  This Wednesday, the entire Performing Arts Department will be traveling to Sudlersville Middle in the morning and then back to QACHS for lunch and an afternoon performance right here in our auditorium for Centreville Middle in the afternoon.  Students will report to the band room at 8:30 to prepare for our departure.  We will return back to QACHS at about 12:00 for everyone to eat on “C lunch” and prepare for the afternoon performance on our stage. We will hold a Dress Rehearsal during 3rd period today after the kids eat on A Lunch.  Tomorrow we will hold a combined rehearsal during B Lunch just as we did before the Winter Concert a couple weeks ago.  On Thursday we will have time in class for the students to check out the music for small ensembles in preparation for the Solo and Ensemble Festival in February.  Friday we will have short classes due to the half day, and some fun is planned for our 23 minutes together in each class.

There are no after-school rehearsals this week.

Pit Orchestra Rehearsals will begin on the Monday after we return from Winter Break.

Congratulations to the Marching Lions Band for an outstanding job in the Centreville Christmas Parade this past Friday night.  This week, things are getting to slow down a bit for us.  There are no scheduled after-school rehearsals until after Winter Break when the Pit Orchestra will begin its rehearsal schedule. The Concert and Symphonic Bands will continue looking at music for District Band Festival which will be in March and the Spring Concert in May.

There are no after-school rehearsals this week.

The 2024 musical production of “Beauty and the Beast” had another great set of performances this past weekend. Today the Concert and Symphonic Bands will have their final rehearsals for District Band Festival, which is on Tuesday. Below you will find our schedule for the day. Last Friday was the due date for the District Festival Permission Slip.  If it has not been turned in, it needs to be done today.

Looking ahead to next week, we will begin our Marching Band rehearsals after school on Monday and Jazz Band rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday after school.

HAPPY NATIONAL MARCHING ARTS DAY….MARCH FORTH!

We had a very successful opening weekend for “Beauty and the Beast” with the performances held on both Friday and Saturday nights.  This week we will perform a daytime show for Elementary students on Thursday.  We will then close the show next weekend after giving a performance on Saturday evening and then on Sunday afternoon.

The Concert and Symphonic Bands will continue their preparations for District Band Festival, which will be next Tuesday.  Permission slips are going home today and are due back by this Friday so that they can be put on file in the office before we go next week.  We will have our monthly Band Parent Meeting on Thursday night.

The final trip payment was due this past Friday.  If that final payment, full balance, or remaining balance has not yet been mailed in, we need that taken care of right away so that we can take care of our rooming list and confirm all of our numbers for our various reservations.

Taking a look ahead, we will begin our Marching Band rehearsals on Mondays and Jazz Band rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays, after school, starting in two weeks.

This week we have our District Solo and Ensemble festival at Centreville Middle School.  The Pit Orchestra continues to prepare for Dress Rehearsals and the opening of “Beauty and the Beast” next week.  The Symphonic and Concert Bands continue to prepare for District Band Festival in three weeks.  We are in need of folks to help serve dinner next Monday night as the band will be hosting the dress rehearsal dinner that night.
