Update for the Week of 3/11/24-3/15/24

The 2024 musical production of “Beauty and the Beast” had another great set of performances this past weekend. Today the Concert and Symphonic Bands will have their final rehearsals for District Band Festival, which is on Tuesday. Below you will find our schedule for the day. Last Friday was the due date for the District Festival Permission Slip.  If it has not been turned in, it needs to be done today.

Looking ahead to next week, we will begin our Marching Band rehearsals after school on Monday and Jazz Band rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday after school.

HAPPY NATIONAL MARCHING ARTS DAY….MARCH FORTH!

We had a very successful opening weekend for “Beauty and the Beast” with the performances held on both Friday and Saturday nights.  This week we will perform a daytime show for Elementary students on Thursday.  We will then close the show next weekend after giving a performance on Saturday evening and then on Sunday afternoon.

The Concert and Symphonic Bands will continue their preparations for District Band Festival, which will be next Tuesday.  Permission slips are going home today and are due back by this Friday so that they can be put on file in the office before we go next week.  We will have our monthly Band Parent Meeting on Thursday night.

The final trip payment was due this past Friday.  If that final payment, full balance, or remaining balance has not yet been mailed in, we need that taken care of right away so that we can take care of our rooming list and confirm all of our numbers for our various reservations.

Taking a look ahead, we will begin our Marching Band rehearsals on Mondays and Jazz Band rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays, after school, starting in two weeks.

This week is going to be a long and busy week for the Pit Orchestra as we enter into Dress Rehearsals each afternoon into evening and open the show of “Beauty and the Beast” on Friday.  The Concert and Symphonic Bands continue their preparations for District Band Festival in two weeks.

This week we have our District Solo and Ensemble festival at Centreville Middle School.  The Pit Orchestra continues to prepare for Dress Rehearsals and the opening of “Beauty and the Beast” next week.  The Symphonic and Concert Bands continue to prepare for District Band Festival in three weeks.  We are in need of folks to help serve dinner next Monday night as the band will be hosting the dress rehearsal dinner that night.

This week we continue our preparations for District Solo and Ensemble festival at Centreville Middle School next week.  The Pit Orchestra will continue its preparation for Dress Rehearsals and the opening of the show in two weeks.  The Concert and Symphonic Bands continue to prepare for District Band Festival which will be in four weeks.

The last payment for the Tennessee trip in May is due on March 1st.  Please remember that all balances must be completely paid in full to be added to the rooming list.  We will have to take care of the rooming lists, for the students, the week after the final payment for their submission.  Additionally, any chaperons that received rooming paperwork in December, need to return that as soon as possible if it has not been done yet.

This week we will continue to prepare for Solo and Ensemble Festival that is in two weeks at Centreville Middle, “Beauty and the Beast” that opens three weeks from this Friday, and District Band Festival that is five weeks from Tuesday.  If you would like to travel with us to North Dorchester High School for District Band Festival as a chaperone, please send me an e-mail so that I can put you on the list.

Congratulations once again to the 4 students who earned a chair in the 2024 Sr. All-Shore Honors Band this past Saturday at Bennett Middle School.  During our Symphonic and Concert Band classes, our small ensembles continue to prepare for Solo and Ensemble Festival and the large ensemble for District Festival.  The Pit Orchestra will continue their preparations for the musical after school and will add President’s Day to our schedule due to that being made an instructional day.  Thursday we will have our February Band Parents meeting.

Students are off for another day today, as teachers are involved in Professional Development.  Tomorrow we will begin our second-semester classes and have a make-up day for the midpoint assessments for Hybrid 1 classes we missed last Tuesday.  Looking at the week as a whole, we will continue our preparations for Solo and Ensemble Festival, District Band Festival, and the Musical.  As a result of the latest snowstorm, All-Shore Auditions were postponed from this past Saturday to this coming Saturday.  All of the times and details will remain the same.

Update for the Week of 1/15/24 – 1/20/24

This week the students have a short three-day week due to being off today for MLK Day and then off again on Friday due to Teacher Professional Development.  However, at the same time, it will be a busy week because we will finish up the first semester with final exams.  Tomorrow, we will stay in our first hybrid classes for all of third period, as it will only be the midpoint of the year for those courses, and will allow for the midpoint assessments.  On Wednesday we will have the final exams for periods 1 and 2 with a 1:00 dismissal.  On Thursday will be the exams for periods 3 and 4 and the midpoint assessments for the Hybrid 2 classes with another early dismissal day at 1:00 PM.  We will only have a Pit Orchestra rehearsal after school on Tuesday due to the fact that it will be the only regular dismissal day.  In both of the classes during the day, we will continue our preparations for Solo and Ensemble Festival and District Band Festival. This coming Saturday will be All-Shore auditions at Bennett M.S. in Fruitland, MD.  Students will need to arrive for check-in at 9:00 AM and be checked in by 10:00 AM.

Next week the kids will be off again on Monday for the second Teacher Professional Development Day.  The second Semester will begin on Tuesday.

This week is our last full week of the first semester as we continue to prepare for Solo and Ensemble Festival and District Band Festival.  Next week, we will be off for MLK Jr. Day on Monday and then students will have Mid-term exams for the Hybrid classes and Final Exams for the Fall Semester on Wednesday and Thursday with no school for students on Friday.  The following week will be a second Teacher PD day on Monday with the new semester starting on Tuesday of that week.
