Update for the Week of 4/27/26 – 5/1/26

This week will be very busy, but one that we have been looking forward to for several months. Today is the final rehearsal for the Marching Band in preparation for their performance on the Spring Concert and in Hershey as well. Jazz Band will have its next-to-last regular rehearsal before the Jazz Concert next week. We will have a dress rehearsal on Tuesday during 3rd period, the Spring Concert on Wednesday evening, and the spring trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania, on Friday through Sunday.

REMINDER! We are going to have a couple of themed baskets for a basket raffle at the Spring Concert on Wednesday night. This is to help with our end-of-year awards expenses. One basket will be themed “All Things Summer”, and the other will be a gift card basket. We are accepting donations of beach items such as beach towels, sunscreen, sunglasses, flip-flops, a beach umbrella, water bottles, Stanley Cups, s’mores supplies, etc., and gift cards of any amount. Please send these items in to Mr. Wight by the end of the day tomorrow (Tuesday).

Next week, we will have the Night of Jazz concert on Wednesday at QACHS and a Booster Meeting on Thursday in the Band Room.

Today, we are 11 days away from our departure to Pennsylvania for the Hersheypark Music in the Parks Festival. Just a reminder that all Emergency Medical Forms are due by the end of this week. This week, we will continue our preparations for both our performances at the Spring Concert, which is next Wednesday, and in Hershey next Friday.

The Symphonic Band will continue its preparations for both upcoming performances: the Spring Concert and the Hershey performance in two weeks. The Marching Band will continue its preparations for its performance on the Spring Concert, at the Parade Review in Hershey, and in the Chestertown Tea Party Parade. The Jazz ensemble continues its preparations for the Jazz Concert in three weeks for the QACHS Night of Jazz.

This week, we are enjoying a much-needed week off for spring break. This will give us a chance to recharge just a bit and be ready for the final push into the end of this year. We have a busy set of weeks ahead as we prepare for the Spring Concert, the trip to Hershey, and our Night of Jazz. We will then begin to shift gears and look forward to the excitement of what next year can bring as we begin our spring clinics and training camps for the 2026-2027 Marching Lions Band.

Congratulations to all of the members of the 2026 All-Shore Honor Bands, including those from QACHS, who presented their concert this past Saturday afternoon at Wicomico High School. It was an outstanding evening of Music presented by both the Junior and Senior bands.

This week is our last week of school before being off for 10 days of Spring Break, beginning with an early dismissal at 12:00 pm on Thursday. The Symphonic Band continues to prepare for the Spring Concert on April 29th, the Jazz Band continues to prepare for the 2026 Night of Jazz that will be on May 6, and the Marching Lions will hold their second rehearsal in preparation for the Spring Concert, the parade review in Hershey, and the Chestertown Tea Party Parade on May 23. We will have our April Band Booster Meeting on Wednesday evening.

This week, the Symphonic Band continues to prepare for the Spring Concert and their performance in Hershey. The Marching Lions will hold their first rehearsal this evening in preparation for the Spring Concert, Hershey, and the Chestertown Tea Party Parade on May 23. We are looking forward to welcoming the SMS students who will be joining us for the rehearsals and parade. The Jazz ensemble continues its preparations for the Jazz Concert. The members of the 2026 Sr. All-Shore Band will rehearse throughout the day on Friday and again Saturday morning, with the concert Saturday afternoon at Wicomico High School.

Next week: We will have our April Band Booster meeting on Wednesday, due to the start of Spring Break on Thursday afternoon.

Update for the Week of 3/16/26 – 3/20/26

The Symphonic Band did “Excellent” last week at District Band Festival. This week, we will listen to the judges’ comments as part of our reflection and preparation to perform the same three pieces at the Spring Concert and in Hershey. This week, Jazz Band rehearsals will begin in preparation for the Jazz Concert in May, and we will hold rehearsals on both Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. This week, however, we will only have rehearsal on Tuesday due to Mr. Wright attending the Junior District Band Festival on Thursday.

Looking ahead to next week, we will begin our Marching Band rehearsals on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM to accommodate our members who are participating in a Spring Sport, as well as those students who will be joining us from SMS in preparation for the Spring Concert, Hershey, and the Tea Party Parade.

2026 Maryland District V Band Festival Results

Today, the Symphonic Band traveled to Kent County High School to participate in the Maryland District V Band Festival. The ensemble gave a fantastic performance on stage and earned a unanimous rating of “Excellent” before heading off to the Sight-Reading Room. In our Sight-Reading Assessment, the kids were very attentive and completed all of the pre-performance steps very well, before finishing with a great performance of that piece. As a result, they earned a rating of “Superior”. So that resulted in an overall rating of “Excellent”.

As we begin the month of March, we also begin our celebration of Music In Our Schools Month and Sousa’s March Mania. This week the Symphonic Band will continue its preparations for District Band Festival. The permission slips that have to be put on file here in the front office when we go, was passed out to each of the students in class on Friday. These need to be signed and returned by the end of this week. There will also be a Booster Meeting in the Band Room on Thursday night.

Taking a look ahead to next week, we will head to Kent County High School on Wednesday for District Band Festival. In two weeks, we will begin our Jazz Band rehearsals on Tuesday, March 17th, after school. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will also begin our Marching Band rehearsals on Monday, March 23rd, from 6 – 8 PM, in preparation for the Spring Concert, Spring Trip, and the Tea Party Parade.
