Update for the Week of 8/29/11 – 9/2/11

I want to welcome everyone back to another school year.  Hopefully we have all made it through this past week of events from earthquakes to hurricanes.  It is hard to believe the summer has gone by so quickly and tomorrow, we will welcome the new Freshmen to the school and have a day of special presentations, tours, and a mock schedule in store.  Wednesday we will welcome back the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.

This week we also start our regular after school rehearsal schedule for the Marching Band.  However, there is a change for this week and we are asking that everyone report for rehearsal on Tuesday so that the Woodwinds and Brass can get a sectional rehearsal in before our Labor Day Break next week.  Tomorrow night will also be the first rehearsal for the Alumni Marching Band from 7-8PM.  I am looking forward to another very exciting year of performances from all of our ensembles here at QACHS.

Below is the schedule of events and rehearsals for this week.

Monday – NO SCHOOL!

Tuesday – Freshmen Day
Sectional Rehearsal for All Sections 2:35-4:45PM
Alumni Marching Band Rehearsal 7:00-8:00PM

Wednesday – Upperclassmen Return
No After School Rehearsal
Back to School Night 6:30PM

Thursday – Full Marching Band Rehearsal 2:35-4:45PM

Friday – NO SCHOOL! (Labor Day Weekend)

Change in Rehearsal Schedule for the Marching Band this week

Schools are closed on Monday due to the weather events of the weekend.  As a result the Freshmen will report on Tuesday and the Upper Classmen will report on Wednesday.  Due to no school tomorrow and again next Monday for Labor Day, it would be two weeks before the Woodwinds and Brass would be able to have sectionals.  So, I feel it would be best that we have everyone report for sectional rehearsal on Tuesday from 2:30 – 4:45.  If there are any concerns that I need to be aware of due to the change of schedule for the WW’s and Brass, please e-mail me at eric.wright@qacps.org.

Update for the Week of 8/22/11 – 8/27/11

This is our last week before school starts.

The Marching Band is going to do a “Celebrity Scoop” night at the Rita’s Italian Ice location in Chestertown on Tuesday, from 5 – 8 PM.  This is to benefit the General Marching Band Fund.  You will need to wear your Green Band Shirt and Tennis Shoes/Sneakers.  We will work both inside scooping ice and outside attracting business to Rita’s.  Remember, the more Rita’s sells during our three hour fundraiser the more we make for the Marching Band.

Tuesday of next week, we will have our first of three rehearsals for the QACHS Marching Lions Alumni Band.  The alumni band will perform with the current band as a part of the homecoming parade and game.  The rehearsal will be held in the Band Room from 7 – 8 PM.

This week is our next to last Marching Band Rehearsal before school starts.

The Marching Band is going to do a “Celebrity Scoop” night at the Rita’s Italian Ice location in Chestertown on Tuesday, August 23rd from 5 PM – 8 PM.

2011 QACHS Marching Lions Alumni Band

Attention all QACHS Marching Lions Band Alumni!  We would like to invite you to be a part of the 2011 QACHS Marching Lions Alumni Band.  The band will be a part of the Homecoming activities that are to take place on Saturday, October 1st.  Rehearsals will be on Tuesday, August 30th, September 13th, and September 27th from 7 – 8PM in the QACHS Band Room.  This opportunity is for instrumentalists and color guard alike.

We had a great two weeks of camp the past two weeks and I am very proud of all the hard work that went into doing all that was accomplished in both the rehearsals and the final performance.  This week we will perform for the Queen Anne’s County Fair Opening Ceremonies as well as lead the Fair Parade through the 4-H Park.  On Wednesday, we will resume our Wednesday Night Rehearsals from 6 – 9 PM.

Here is what our schedule looks like this week:

Monday – Queen Anne’s County Fair Performances

  • Report time is 5: 30 PM
  • Dress is Green Band Shirt, Blue Jeans, and Sneakers
  • We will perform at 6:45 PM in the Horse Ring
  • Will will lead the fair parade through the 4-H Park after the ceremonies conclude.
  • If you are not going to return on the bus after the performances, then you must turn in the travel release form before we leave the school and can be found and downloaded from http://boe.qacps.k12.md.us/qhs/qaband/travel%20release.pdf.
  • If you do leave from the fair, you must take your instrument with you.
  • For those that will return to the school after we perform, you can expect to be back between 8:00 – 8:30 PM.

Update for the Week of 8/1/11 – 8/5/11

This week the Marching Lions Band will go through their second week of Band Camp 2011.

Here is what our schedule looks like this week:

Monday – Band Camp 8AM – 4:30PM (Student Leadership Meeting @ 7:30AM)

Tuesday – Band Camp 8AM – 4:30PM (Student Leadership Meeting @ 7:30AM)

Wednesday – Band Camp 8AM – 4:00PM (Student Leadership Meeting @ 7:30AM)

Drum Corps Competition in West Chester.  We will leave QACHS @ 4:00PM, make a dinner stop in Middletown, DE at the plaza with McDonald’s, KFC, and Taco Bell on the way, and arrive in West Chester about 7:00PM for a 7:30PM Show.  We are planning to get back to QACHS at about 11:30PM.

Thursday – Band Camp 8AM – 4:30PM (Student Leadership Meeting @ 7:30AM)

Friday – Band Camp 8AM – 12:00 Noon (Student Leadership Meeting @ 7:30AM
We will do our end of camp performance at 11:00AM.  All family, friends, and neighbors are invited.
