QACHS’s Band Blog

This week will be a bit of an odd week due to the fact that we will only have two full days of school for the students and one of those will be a part of this current semester and the other will be the start of second semester.  Semester exams will be given on Tuesday and Wednesday with students finishing the day with a 12:45 dismissal time.

This coming Saturday will be All-Shore auditions at Mace’s Lane M.S. in Cambridge, MD.  Students will need to check in at 9:00 AM.  Those choosing to ride the bus will need to report at 7:15 AM for a 7:30 AM departure and will return back to school at about 3:00 PM.

Here is what our schedule looks like this week:

Monday – Pit Orchestra Rehearsal (2:30 – 4:45)

Tuesday – No After School Rehearsals – 12:45 PM Student Dismissal (Pd. 1 and 2 Semester Exams)

Wednesday – No After School Rehearsals – 12:45 PM Student Dismissal (Pd. 3 and 4 Semester Exams)

Thursday – No School – Teacher Inservice day.

Friday – No After School Rehearsals.

This week we are winding down the first semester as it is the final full week.  Next week semester exams will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.  We area also continuing preparations for The Music Man and District Band Festival.

As auditions for All-Shore are coming up, paperwork for pre-registration will go home today and will need to be returned to Mr. Wright by Friday with the necessary $3 per instrument registration fee.  We are going to finally get to start rehearsals for the Pit Orchestra this week.  Rehearsals will be after school each day, Monday through Thursday.

Well, we get back into the swing of things this week as we push towards the end of the first semester and then on towards the end of the year as we will soon begin the second semester after that.  We were supposed to begin Pit Orchestra rehearsals this week, but due to the amount of rewrite that I am doing to fit out instrumentation needs, we are going to have to delay for a week so that I can get more done.  I had hoped to get much more than I did done over break, but there just were not enough hours in a day that I could do that for the amount of work that needed to be done.  Hopefully with an extra week and being in a more regular routine, I can get much more done that will at least satisfy enough of the show to start rehearsal and I will then continue to rewrite the rest of it as we go along.  So, as a result the only real thing that we have on our schedule this week is the Band Booster Meeting at 7:00 PM in the Band Room on Thursday night.  Please plan to come out and see what we have coming up in the Band Program and take part in electing the new Booster Officers for the 2012 calender year.

This is our last week of school before we take our two week Winter Break.  The only thing that we really have going on this week is the Jazz Band will have it’s last winter rehearsal and go on their Winter Jazz Tour to our four feeder elementary schools.

This week things begin to slow down as we head towards the Winter Break.  We had a great Winter Concert last Thursday evening and Parade performance on Friday evening.  The only performance(s) that we have left is the Jazz Band’s Winter Tour next Thursday during the day.  This week, the Concert Bands will begin working on the music for District Band Festival.  We will also have the sign-up for the Pit Orchestra out, so if you are interested in playing for the spring musical production of “The Music Man”, be sure to sign up.

This week will be a busy week with after school Marching Band and Jazz Band rehearsals, the Winter Concert, and the Centreville Christmas Parade.  We will also have a combined Concert/Symphonic Band rehearsal as well as Dress Rehearsal this week during the school day.

This week is a short week as far as school goes since we will only have two days of classes.  It is also a very exciting week for 5 of our band family members.  On Thursday, Elizabeth J. will be marching as a member of the Macy’s All-American Marching Band that will be leading the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade through the parade route into Herold Square and beyond.  Be sure to look for her in the parade at 10:00 AM on NBC.  While Elizabeth is marching in NYC, Jesse D., Kyle T., Becca G., and Michelle L., will be marching in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade as members of the Tournament of Bands All-Star Marching Band.  We are so very proud of each of these students as they represent QACHS in these two outstanding marching bands.

Next week will be our busy week with rehearsals, winter concert, and Centreville Christmas Parade.  The Marching Band will have full rehearsal on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the parade Friday night.  The Jazz Band will have rehearsal on Tuesday with the Winter Concert on Thursday night.  Other combined rehearsals will also take place during the school day.

This week both concert ensembles and the Jazz Ensemble continue to prepare for the Winter Concert.  The color guard is also going to come in after school on Tuesday this week and next to begin preparations for the Winter Concert and Centreville Christmas Parade.

As we take a look to the week after Thanksgiving, the marching band will come back together for three rehearsals (M,W,F), the Winter Concert (H), and the Centreville Christmas Parade (F).
