Well, all of the summer Marching Rehearsals have been complete. There were Wednesday evening music rehearsals from 6-8PM throughout the summer beginning with the first Wednesday after school finished. Then they had two very successful weeks of Band Camp the last week of July in to the first full week of August. They concluded camp with a performance at the Queen Anne’s County 4-H Fair opening ceremony. I want to thank David Durham, Stephen Elburn, Brittany Lynn, Carley Simons, and Janelle Thomas for coming back and helping us throughout the summer and camp. Also a big thank you to Mrs. Fullerton for giving up two weeks of her summer to help us with band camp as well.

We will begin our weekly after school rehearsals on Monday. As we have done in the past, Woodwinds and Brass will have rehearsal on Mondays, Percussion and Color Guard on Tuesdays, and everyone has rehearsal on Thursdays and Fridays. After school rehearsals will run from 2:40PM to 4:45PM. The after school activity buses will depart at 5:00PM.

This Monday, the freshmen start with their own special day and Tuesday the rest of the upperclassmen will return. There will be a bit of a change in the daily band schedule. The Hybrid Period is being moved from 3rd period to 4th period this year. So, it will be a nice way for students to end their day.

We will be having a band orientation meeting for all band members and parents on Thursday, September 4th at 7:00PM in the Band Room. Everyone is strongly encouraged to attend so that we can all be informed about what will be going on in the band program this year and meet each other. Time is always short on Open House night, so this will give us plenty of time to talk together. So, mark your calendars and plan to attend.

Check out our wiki for signing up to help in the concession stand at the stadium. Click on the link, follow the directions, and help us out: http://qachsbandconcession.wikispaces.com. We have already had some folks to sign up. Thank you so much!

Stay tuned to the this blog all year and stay informed. This will be our first full year to have the blog and I am so very excited to be able to share information with all of you.

Hi QA Marching Lions! I was so happy to spend those two weeks with such an outstanding group of young adults. They were focused and respectful and it was, by far, the most impressive marching band QA has put on the field in a number of years. I can’t wait to see what goals are accomplished this marching season and wish you the best of luck!

As for the concert band, you are always amazing and I expect nothing less this year. I miss my freshmen students already and can’t wait to see and hear you at festivals. Take Care!

You really need to update the schedule on the website. And it would probably be helpful if you sent out a schedule of marching band performances to the students. We don’t know half the stuff because it still has everything from last year on here. You will hopefully do this really soon.

Please be patient with me during this very busy time. I had hoped to update the band website during the summer, but can’t FTP into the school server from the outside. So that means the only way I can get it all done is to sit at my computer in my office. With teaching three classes a day, prepping for those classes and running a rehearsal after school and attending meetings, there isn’t enough time to do everything. I have it on my to do list. I will get to it as soon as I can. However, all students have the schedule for all marching and concert events. The marching band schedule was given out in the band handbook during mini band camp back in May outlining the dates of all practices from mini camp 2008 to the end of the season in November. It also outlined all performances from the Fair performance to the Tea Party/Centreville Parades the last weekend in May 2009. If anyone needs additional copies of that schedule, I have had copies available in the band room in the black trays on the shelf next to my office door. The concert band schedule was just issued in your course syllabus. Please refer to these two printed documents for all schedules until I can get the website updated. Thanks!

The Lions have a blog. Nifty.

To the band: Give it everything. Excel.

    Mr. Wright,
The concession stand sign-up wiki is great! Is there anyway that you can have it available to BOE employees? I can get to your Band Blog on my school computer, but the wiki site is blocked (”personal page” is the message that appears).
    Thanks!
    Diane Clare

    Mr. Wright,

Do you know yet what time the Homecoming parade will start?

    Thanks,
    Tina

  8.   Mr. Wright Says:

SGA was to have a meeting the other day to start laying down the plans for Homecoming Activities. I have not heard yet as to what time everything is to take place such as the Parade. I will post a time as soon as I get one.
